Today reminds us in many ways of how important it is not to remain alone and not to leave those around us without support. And this goes beyond our defense in this war.

Every year on April 26, we honor the courage and selflessness of the thousands of people who protected Ukraine and all other countries from the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster. It is called an "accident," but the implication is far greater. The explosion at the fourth reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant contaminated countries thousands of kilometers away from the epicenter with radioactive elements. The consequences could have been much more catastrophic had it not been for our people.

Similarly, when it comes to Russia’s war against Ukraine, some still call it a "conflict," though the threat is global. And it is only thanks to the Ukrainian people, the self-sacrifice and resilience of many of our citizens, that we succeeded in holding back the full-scale attack of the Russian army, inflicting significant losses on it, and defending Ukraine’s independence, and thus the right of other nations to independence and autonomous life.

39 years ago, our people united. Over 3 years ago, not only our people, but millions across the globe united. Europe, both Americas, Africa, countries of Asia, and the Pacific region — everywhere there are those who support our defense of life. Everywhere, there are those whose help forms the foundation for restoring security.

I thank all those who eliminated the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster. I thank everyone who is helping the Ukrainian people survive the catastrophe of the Russian war. Security and peace must be restored.

Today, @SecGenNATO Mark Rutte is in Ukraine. We discussed the security of Ukraine, our entire Europe, and the Euro-Atlantic region, as well as relations with all our partners in Europe and America.

The main focus was on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. Absolutely everyone sees how urgent Ukraine's need is for air defense systems and missiles for them. We are counting on the implementation of our agreements on air defense with partners in Europe and America. Patriot systems are defensive weapons, and we're not just asking for Patriots — we are ready to purchase them. This is a purely political matter — the systems are available in the world, the missiles for the Patriots are also available, and whether we will have sufficient protection from Russian ballistic strikes depends entirely on political decisions.

I am grateful to every leader who does not turn a blind eye to the reality — that lasting peace can only be achieved through determination. I am grateful to @SecGenNATO for the unwavering support for Ukraine since the earliest days of this war.

Fifteen years ago today, I stood with President Obama as he signed the Affordable Care Act into law. It was a big deal then and it still is today.

Under my administration, we focused on building on the successes of the ACA. I’m proud that we helped a record number of Americans sign up for marketplace coverage and significantly lowered the costs of prescription drugs and premiums.

I believe that health care is a right, not a privilege – and we should always protect it.
