A six-year-old girl is in a critical condition after she was stabbed at a primary school on the KZN North Coast.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue, she sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack.

A 16-year-old boy, armed with a knife and other items, forced his way onto the property and then into a classroom this morning.

He locked himself in with the kids and a teacher, before violently stabbing the little girl.

Another teacher was able to force the door open but the suspect fled.

Bystanders and an Alpha Security guard gave chase and restrained him, before he was handed over to police.

It’s believed the suspect - who, until recently, lived with his parents at a Ballito estate - was previously caught attempting to detonate a device at a local mall.
