As many now know, Ruth Perry, sister of my friend Professor Julia Waters took her own life following the brutality of an Ofsted inspection at the Caversham Primary School of which she was headteacher.
This must never happen again. I stand with Julia in the following:
This is my school. My headteacher. I am so PROUD to work for someone who stands up for what is right, for what she believes in.
Please support us in making Ofsted realise this system has to change. For teachers. For children. For #RuthPerry. We will be heard. #edutwitter
In a statement overnight Ruth Perry’s family have called for far reaching change in a system they describe as punitive. The statement is measured but also excoriating criticism - more follows in thread to keep the context
Dear @Ofstednews,
Please explain why you removed the second bullet point from Caversham Primary Ofsted report when published on your site today?
Is it because you realised how deeply disrespectful & dismissive it is to Ruth Perry, & shows an institutionalised lack of care?
If there is anything that demonstrates why Ofsted categories MUST end it has to be this. What a loss Ruth Perry surely was to eduction but, above all, to her family. Ruth’s sister’s words are utterly heartbreaking. This simply cannot go on.

A headteacher has said she is ‘taking a stand’ and is refusing to let Ofsted inspect her school after the death of Ruth Perry, who took her own life after her school was downgraded to ‘inadequate’ https://t.co/1MeCIAOUGA
My thoughts have been with the family of Ruth Perry this weekend.
Ofsted is not fit for purpose. It's findings are unreliable and flawed.
Suicide is nearly 2x the national average in primary teaching profession.
I absolutely support Ruth's sisters demands.
Abolish Ofsted.
“We join with our colleagues in the NAHT and NEU in calling on Ofsted to pause inspections following the death of headteacher Ruth Perry."

Whoever made the montage for the #NTAwards deserves a medal. I cried so much at all of those moments that I’d forgotten or perhaps suppressed during the past 20 months xx
