What exactly is this belief based on?

Ukraine was officially non-aligned before 2014, russia still seized Crimea and intervened in Donbas. And russia's own demands have gone beyond four oblasts to neutrality and "demilitarization", they repeat it all this time.

Why assume giving russia more land and leaving Ukraine weaker would make them stop exactly this time

I always find it so condescending when these people tell Ukrainians that giving up land, giving up their army and effectively putting themselves at russia's mercy is somehow "better for them."

They have no idea what Russia would actually do once Ukrainians could no longer resist, but still lecture that kneeling is wiser than fighting back

What's more likely?

That US under Trump secretly commands a proxy war against russia while publicly pressuring Ukraine, pausing its aid and telling it to stop striking Russian energy..

or that Ukraine is an independent country trying to get whatever help it can to resist russia, while sometimes openly defying US

You're just repeating points I already answered and adding "retard" every sentence now. I never opposed negotiations alongside fighting. I opposed treating territorial concessions and weakening Ukraine as the obvious path to peace or precondition for further negotiations or ceasefire. We disagree on whether continued resistance can improve Ukraine's outcome. That's it.

Two tweets ago demilitarisation "isn't on the table". Now it's a real demand that comes at the end and "UA can't be expected to lay down arms", That's my position, you've argued your way to it while insulting me like an angry child. We only differ on whether conceding territory to enter that process is worth the gamble

This is the same disagreement we've had for like 10 tweets, just dressed in fancy game-theory words. "UA concedes and survives" only works if russia actually stops after, that's the whole thing we've been arguing.. from UA perspective it really is gambling their statehood, I already pointed that out.. Putin calls the territory a precondition to start talks, not the end of them

Game-theoretically there's no stable Nash equilibrium here: as long as russia thinks it wins long-term and UA thinks it can outlast, no peace holds. But look at the asymmetry, you see, you want UA to fold and gamble its existence, I want russia to give up destroying a state, which costs it nothing but a war of choice

Germany and Japan were the aggressors, disarmed by the side defending against them. russia invaded, and now wants the victim disarmed, your own analogy strips the wrong side. And "demilitarize so their investments are safe" isn't a border demand, it's keeping UA unable to ever resist russia taking what it wants

And not trusting a deal you'd have to disarm under isn't "never negotiate", it's just not disarming on a promise in front of a state which attacked you twice already. Totally reasonable

If it were really just a limited border dispute over Donbas and Crimea, why does russia always also demand large-scale demilitarization and neutrality, terms that leave UA helpless in the face of a third invasion? It's just not believable russia wouldn't go further, they are not even trying

I never told that Ukraine must regain territories to win, in fact I believe they only need to preserve a ukrainian state and nation, because I believe destroying both is russia's ultimate goal. Negotiations stand still because the only thing acceptable to russia is giving up the state, so they can destroy the nation
