The Law Society of Kenya has directed advocates nationwide to boycott court proceedings on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. This includes both a one day nationwide boycott and an indefinite, targeted boycott of judges and judicial officers who have obtained court orders restraining the JSC or EACC from investigating or processing complaints against them. LSK says the decision follows months of engagement with the Judiciary that yielded little progress on concerns over corruption, case delays, and judicial accountability. Court filings and statutory-deadline documents will continue as normal throughout the boycott.
In response, the Judiciary issued a statement today, July 20, through spokesperson Paul Ndemo, saying all courts across the country will remain open and continue hearing and determining matters as scheduled on Wednesday. The Judiciary described the boycott as neither an appropriate nor proportionate response to the concerns raised, and urged advocates to pursue dialogue instead. With both sides holding firm, how Wednesday actually plays out courtrooms open but advocates absent remains to be seen. #LawyersBoycott
