Insurance coverage lawyer, aging (aged) husband & father of three, and Blue Jays fan since '77. I post about all three, but delete non-law posts with alacrity.
@jononabus@Brinderkins@laurennancie If we’re going to do the math thing, it’s like the average American household donating $13k, or the median donating about $2,500.
ONCA: calling pleaded lies “civil fraud” did not justify amending the Statement of Defence where the insurers could already rely on those lies to defend a s. 132 Insurance Act claim and resist relief from forfeiture. Pleading facts matters more than how you label them.
With Ontario’s Jul 1 SABs changes, and Alberta’s expected Jan 1, 2027 move to Care-First with a new SPF 1, how many insureds will read their renewal packages before finding out what coverage they actually bought? Oh to be a broker now that summer is here. https://t.co/23cT4BvojY
@adambl555@KeeganMatheson I think you nailed it with the urgency point. With similar innings pitched Little's ERA is half that of Macko, and his K/9 is better. If he can improve on the walks ...
ABKB: A private e-scooter is an “automobile” for Section B purposes under current SPF 1. As the Court noted, the definition has been unchanged since 1970 while micro-mobility has proliferated, so my Tuesday note on the draft SPF 1’s e-scooter wording is accidentally aging well.
ABKB: A private e-scooter is an “automobile” for Section B purposes under the current SPF 1 wordings. Given Applications Judge Wanke’s observation that “It is for the legislature to decide if new definitions are needed,” I suppose the new SPF 1 wordings are arriving right on cue.
ONSC: BI coverage doesn't end just because physical repairs are complete. After arson and gunfire damaged a law office, insurer-clients pulled their files (ouch) and the firm closed. The resulting loss was held to be sufficiently connected to the physical damage, subject to the 12-month indemnity period.
@ProfRobAnderson At career day last week I segued into telling my grade 1 son’s class about the shire reeves in history. Seemed more interesting than “I write letters and talk on the phone”
@FUT_Accountant@kylesheldon This isn’t an uncommon issue. I suspect that every naming rights deal for the past 50 years has included a “clean stadium” clause for such events.
