Mexico is fully aware that it is a third third nation LARPing as a second world nation because of the benevolence of its patron. Canada is under the delusion that it is inherently a first world nation when in fact it is a second world nation specializing in resource extraction, and does not realize how far it would fall without US patronage.

This may be in part thanks to the language barrier - Canadians think of themselves as US coastal elites because they are able to participate fully in the elite cultural dialogue.

Mexicans, because of extra cultural distance, are not as confused.
