It could still happen, though I'm not holding my breath. Neither should anyone else. First, Sony has to complete the current Destiny 2 purge, completely realign all the remaining resources and fully stabilize their game plan for Marathon. Next, they have to architect their long-term plans for the Destiny franchise. Will there be new Destiny IPs? If so, which platforms?
If Destiny is going to move forward they will force-rank selections based on profitability forecasts. If one or more of the IPs is forecasted to hit their metrics—and there is still an appetite for developing Destiny within the Sony PlayStation universe—it will be greenlit. If Sony decides that Destiny has no future within their corporation, they might sell parts or all of the IP.
At least, from a purely business perspective that's how I see it.
At this point my biggest hope is they keep enough of a team around to keep Destiny from falling in on itself while they figure out what the fuck they want to do.
It’s 10pm on the east coast and Marathon is continuing the downward trend and is struggling to get past 8k players on Steam. If these number hold it will be a new record low player peak for Marathon and almost a 4k player drop from season one’s all time low. The game is slowly dying by the day and at this rate I’m not sure how much longer it can go on. It’s clear that a very small number of players are keeping the game alive and even those players seem to be leaving a little bit each day.
I don’t see this game getting to season three when it’s now consistently getting four digit player peaks.

So, lemme get this straight:
They essentially blew the profit of Destiny on larger offices, and unnecessary projects instead of allocating funds to the very thing that made them this money…
HOW ARE THOSE IDIOTS NOT HELD ACCOTANBLE!?!?
So we, the community/players, are now punished for shit we didn’t do?! Nah, fuck this, Sony doesn’t care about us. They’ll never get another dime from me.
Destiny 2 players organize “Server Slam” as some call for a Sony boycott
The Destiny 2 community is encouraging players to log in on Bungie Day, July 7, for one final “Server Slam.”
They want to celebrate the game one last time and overwhelm the servers.
Players are calling for a Sony boycott to send a message following the end of major development and support only for Marathon
I keep thinking about this and it has me so angry.
You had one of the biggest live service games that was infected by mismanagement. With proper care it could have recovered and thrived and in a few years you could have the income you desire had you have listened to the devs that were so obviously passionate about their work.
Yet you took it out back and shot it with the layoffs, and then turn and spit in our faces with this message “revitalising the market”.
@hermenhulst, @sony / @PlayStation - my money and support will go elsewhere. You have another hater :)

We've lost the Tower before. We won't lose it again.
On 7/7, we run it back. Show Sony how many of us are left. Show the devs how much their blood, sweat, and tears meant to you.
Be the legends you were always meant to be.

It’s Sunday night and 10pm on the east coast and Marathon has failed to peak over 10k players on both Saturday and Sunday nights which is the time slots when everyone says people will be playing the game…. That is not the case. The downward spiral continues for this game and four digit peaks are now going to be the normal from here on out with the numbers continuing to drop lower and lower. The game has gotten to the point where people are reporting matches are starting with missing teams because they can’t find players to fill the slots which is absolutely crazy. There’s no true roadmap for Marathon and honestly in my opinion all future updates (that’s if the game isn’t shut down) are nothing more that last second desperate hail marries trying to save the game. It’s time to wrap it up Bungie, it’s been one hell of a run but it’s over.
Meanwhile Destiny 2 is still peaking close to 100k daily users which is more than Marathon had on its launch day.

Edge of Fate’s narrative still stands as one of my favorites. This dialogue especially between Lodi and Ikora is just so good. Highlights a lot of interesting stuff and Brian Villalobos gives an incredible performance to top it all off.
As a newbie to Destiny 2, this felt so good. I never thought defeating the Witness would be such a wonderful experience. I've never really played games like this before, It was awesome being able to play with friends and solve crazy puzzles.
I feel like I've finally gotten to experience something I've always wanted as a kid. Spending hours on a wonderfully made video game that enthralled us with its story and gameplay. Thank you, Destiny 2, for giving me this moment even as a new player! 😭💜🐇
a lot of hopium for Destiny in the replies
it pains me to say this but I genuinely feel like Destiny as a series is done. Sony has gutted pretty much the entire Destiny team and I just don’t see them investing in Bungie at the level needed to make another mainline Destiny game
Could you imagine the hype if Escalation Protocol returned with Monument of Light AND had the chance to combine with Distortions?
Somewhere out there is an alternate timeline where D2 is alive and content was never vaulted. And that timeline is laughing at us :(
