@ubersuccess What?? It came out right before a Star Wars movie and in its third week had another horror movie open with one of the best opening weekends ever for the genre. Then the weekend after, a comedy horror movie came out aimed at the same demo. And most of them are doing well!

Just an absolutely wild, once or twice a generation type breakout success. Will likely never be the number one movie of the weekend/week but doesn’t need to when everything else can come and go and Obsession just keeps holding up at this level day to day.

YouTuber #CurryBarker grossed INCREDIBLE 4.3M on BIGGEST 4th nationwide MON of ALL TIME for horror, just a -19% drop from last MON (vs #SINNERS 2.4M, -22.6%, #TheSixthSense’s 2.1M, -27.4%), despite adding just +120 theatres on FRI, now playing in 2.900, and despite facing fellow #Backrooms & #ScaryMovie6    

It hits a 156.2M cume in the US.

200M+ absolutely locked 🔒

The film itself had a ridiculously low under 1M production price tag, and #Focus paid only 15M to acquire the global distribution rights from producers (sans France, Russia, Australia & NZ).

Both sides seeing their investment paying off greatly.

Once again, the 220M, which were the ceiling, now seem to be the new floor if #Focus plays their cards right and managed to keep their current theatrical footprint and the film away from digital for as long as possible.

Now eyeing a 220M-250M run in the US

Obsession is, amusingly enough, the next My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Like Obsession, that was an insanely big surprise word of mouth driven low budget summer hit that no one saw coming and was never the number one movie for any week but just kept making money.

Ewan’s wig looking so off and him overall just clearly looking like he shot this a year later has always distracted me from even paying attention to the background. (I know this is not the only thing he shot later but it’s so much more noticeable in this scene for some reason)

Here's a pickup scene from The Phantom Menace that was shot entirely against blue screen. While it isn't impossible to tell if you're looking for it, I think these results are also impressive by any reasonable standard.

It must have been a challenge to convincingly recreate this kind of lighting environment, with the dappled sunlight coming through the leaves of the trees.
