@shagbark_hick I got a tyrol and hardly wear it. A bit goofy and the brim is too short for the weather protection I want. This one has been a nice compromise:

@bradkelly My dad let me pick out a tree for our backyard when I was young, of course I picked a giant sequoia.
It's now 20-30ft tall, hoping I can leave it there to be someones massive headache a few generations from now.
@shagbark_hick But was that reason simply that's what was available in large enough quantities for tents? Cotton and flax weren't exactly prolific in desert places. I'm sure it would buffer some temp swings but 1/2" of fabric is going to be a rounding error compared to air exchange temp wise
@BlokeOnTheRange I have one of the less faded ones I bought in Melbourne, but mine isn't made by swanndri. Seems they contracted out with a few different woolen makers for these.
It's actually very similar to the UK MTP parkas in cut and style.
Forgot my old TAD Nexus belt with the TSA so I had to make a new one. As much as I like the idea of leather I've come to like the consistency and moisture resistance of biothane. It's also easier to sew with if you don't have leather working experience.
@amerpipedream Armpit gussets are unnecessary if you pattern the armhole correctly. Just copy a UK smock if you want the maximum arm mobility.
UK style darts in the external pockets for more volume could also be a winner.
@amerpipedream I'd recommend going to an external patch pocket rather than the internal pocket bag. Likely lower the build cost and have a more heritage look and mirror the chest patch pockets.
