💡We talk about conflict ending. We rarely talk about what comes next. What if a podcast did?
Through "Turning Points", GCERF's podcast series on rehabilitation and reintegration, we hear from those working on the ground:
A practitioner navigating reintegration efforts in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
A programme manager supporting families as they prepare to leave displacement camps.
A psychologist exploring why building trust is central to healing.
A human rights lawyer examining the legal challenges behind return and reintegration.
Their conversations trace the full journey: from displacement, to trust, to belonging.
🎙️ All 4 episodes of Turning Points are now available on our website. And more to come - Stay tuned.

H.E. Maqsoud Kruse, the Chairman of the International Steering Board, welcomed H.E. Christopher Thornley, Chargé d’Affaires, and Adam Al-Khafaji, Second Secretary, from the Embassy of Canada to the UAE for a productive discussion on our shared commitment to preventing and countering extremism and violent extremism (P/CEVE).
As Hedayah's longstanding friendship with Canada as both a Hedayah International Steering Board member and a delivery partner continues to grow, today's meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on our shared progress and future collaboration.
Since launching the latest iteration of our delivery partnership with Global Affairs Canada (@GAC_Corporate ) in 2025, through the “Strategic Communications and Alternative and Counter-narrative Campaigns in Tunisia” program kindly funded by GAC, Hedayah has been working with Tunisia’s National Counter Terrorism Commission (@cnlct), relevant Ministries, civil society actors, and religious and community actors, to effectively address and mitigate behaviours that increase vulnerability to extremism and violent extremism, while countering the dissemination of extremist and violent extremist propaganda perpetrated by extremist and violent extremist groups.
Together, we look forward to continuing this important work through 2027, supporting locally led approaches that strengthen national capacity, empower credible voices and foster more resilient communities.

🌍 The Nairobi Toolkit on Climate Change and Violent Extremism is now making its way through spaces where policy is shaped.
Last week, GCERF brought it to UN Counter-Terrorism Week in New York, presenting it as a practical resource for an urgent challenge: the nexus between climate change and violent extremism.
💬GCERF's Head of Performance and Impact, @AndreAR1025, Ph.D. underlined: "Climate change is a threat multiplier, worsening the very conditions violent extremist groups exploit to recruit and radicalize."
As @GCERF_ED highlighted, ignoring this nexus doesn't just slow prevention — it undermines the sustainability of climate action itself.
These aren't abstract risks. In Iraq and Mali, communities are living them now. Watch people on the frontlines describe what this looks like, in their own words 👇

The toolkit was developed by GCERF as an implementing partner of the @theGCTF Initiative on Addressing the Nexus Between Climate Change and Violent Extremism, co-led by Germany and Kenya.

🌍 Droughts. Floods. Displacement. When climate pressures destabilise communities, violent extremist groups move in - recruiting, fundraising, and exploiting the instability left behind.
The @theGCTF Nairobi Toolkit on Addressing the Nexus Between Climate Change and Violent Extremism Conducive to Terrorism is officially out.
🤝 Co-led by Germany and Kenya and developed by GCERF as implementing partner, the toolkit gives governments and practitioners concrete recommendations to tackle both crises together.
What's inside:
• A framework mapping 5 pathways linking climate change and violent extremism
• 25 actionable recommendations across prevention, security, development and climate sectors
• Guidance for whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches in fragile, climate-affected settings
• Case studies from the Sahel, Horn of Africa, Southeast Asia, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Europe
💐 Thank you to all workshop participants, partners, and to @AndreAR1025, Head of Performance and Impact at GCERF, for steering this important work.
