2004 | Nike × Gemma Fox | Archives

Looking back at some of the defining moments of my career, one that remains particularly special was receiving sponsorship from Nike in 2004. Only myself, Dizzy Rascal & Ms Dynamite.

Nike sponsored my tour, supplying trainers, tracksuits and clothing for my entire team. I remember the countless pairs of Air Force 1s, many of which have since become sought-after classics.

We also organised giveaways, giving fans the opportunity to receive Nike products and be part of the experience. It was a wonderful way to share that support with the people who were supporting my music.

Over the years, Nike has continued to recognise and collaborate with British musical talent, such as artists including Skepta, Jessie J, Jorja Smith and, more recently, Central Cee.

While these relationships have taken different forms, from sponsorship and tour support to campaigns and footwear collaborations, they reflect the growing influence of British music and culture on a global stage.

More than two decades later, I look back with genuine appreciation for those opportunities and the organisations that recognised the potential of British artists during such an important period in our musical history.

Proud to have been part of that journey and an era that helped shape the cultural landscape we see today.

Me and 88 Fingaz have SO many projects moving right now, and one of the things I love is that being on different sides of the world really doesn’t stop the creative process.

A lot of our work happens through Teams and WhatsApp video. 88 sends me the briefs and I get to work writing.

Sometimes we’re literally on video listening back to the records in real time.

Different time zones. Different countries. One creative process.

What an absolute pleasure to sit down with the incredible Skyler Jett for a conversation about music, the industry, life and using music as a force for positive change.

Skyler has had an extraordinary career. An award-winning, Grammy-recognised vocalist, songwriter and vocal producer, he sang background vocals on Céline Dion’s Grammy-winning “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic.

His incredible career has also seen him record and perform with some of the biggest names in music, including Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Sting, Ray Charles, James Brown, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Patti LaBelle and many more.

In 1982, Skyler replaced Lionel Richie in The Commodores, going on to tour 31 countries with the legendary group.

He is also the founder of Music For Global Change, using the power of socially conscious music to inspire, educate, unite and create positive change.

It was a real privilege to share this conversation with someone who has experienced so much music history first-hand. ❤️🎶
