A genius, a mystic and a schizophrenic have far more in common than anyone likes to admit.
In 1986, Prince Charles, who would later become King, admitted on television that he talked to his plants.
“I just come and talk to the plants, really. Very important to talk to them. They respond, I find.”
What few realise is that some of the greatest scientists and inventors who ever lived believed it too.
Take Luther Burbank, who produced over 800 new plants that had never existed, said he convinced a cactus to grow without thorns by speaking to it with love:
“While I was conducting experiments to make ‘spineless’ cacti, I often talked to the plants to create a vibration of love. ‘You have nothing to fear,’ I would tell them. ‘You don’t need your defensive thorns. I will protect you.’ Gradually the useful plant of the desert emerged in a thornless variety.”
Then there was Jagadish Chandra Bose, the scientist who treated plants as living, feeling things, who invented a device called the crescograph that could detect the tiny movements a plant makes as it grows and reacts, then magnify them thousands of times until they were visible to the eye, and with it he showed that plants carry electrical signals much like animal nerves, that they react to light, cold, touch, and injury, and that they could even be anaesthetised just like an animal and then revived.
And then Nikola Tesla, who fell in love with a white pigeon that visited him in New York. He swore she understood him and that they communicated. “I loved that pigeon as a man loves a woman,” he said, “and she loved me.” When she died in his arms, he said a part of him died too, and his life’s work had reached its end.
It makes you wonder whether the ones we called mad were standing closest to the truth, and whether dismissing them as insane was easier than facing the sheer scale of what lies beyond our comprehension.
When you’re certain you’ll win, you give it your all, but the moment you doubt it, you hold yourself back, too afraid to risk it all, because the less convinced you are, the less you’ll put on the line for the prize
Dün biri yanımda gerçekten çok salak bi cümle kurdu.
Kendini limitleyen fikirlerine bağımlı bi insandı.
Direk dedim ki ne salak fikirler bunlar.
Böyle düşünceler dedim benim aklıma bile gelmiyorlar :dd
Ve bu dediğim genuine'dı :)
Beni limitleyen hiçbir fikir kalmamış harbi :)))
