Not to lib out on main but what is an October 8, 2026 second term enthusiastic trump supporter’s relationship to him? Literally what psychological or emotional role does he play in their lives
From new ABC story on the Cornell case:
"The frat brother who invited Jane Doe to the house that night sent a photo to the chat that appears to show her in the bedroom.
"Another asked, 'Are you guys at least naked??'
"He replied, 'Boys come whip it out.'"
That message was sent without the consent or knowledge of the woman involved. She did not ask for a bunch of strangers to pile into the room she was in, expecting "free pussy." That's the situation she was forced into. It was indefensible, outrageous behavior. Stop defending it, or pretending she asked for it.

The zero tolerance policy that the Israel lobby and its domestic loyalists enforce to silence criticism of that foreign country used to be done without anyone noticing, so it was effective. The problem is they’re running a playbook from 2001 in 2026 and everyone can see it now
Slightly relieved Ed Sheeran didn't stand his ground or have any principals so I did not have to develop begrudging respect for a guy who makes Hallmark channel music for your most lobotomized coworkers
the fact that nearly 3,000 people died in a terrorist attack and 9,000+ from exposure to the toxic remants is not funny, and I don't really think anyone is making fun of that
what IS funny is how the day itself became a nationalist political beacon the republican party hitched its entire identity to in the name of performative virtue-signaling patriotism shrouded in american flags and invoked as proof of who loves america the most (often by spineless, bigoted racists who wouldn't be caught dead in new york), who have since made every conceivable dogshit decision for the country to make all our lives worse as a result for the past 25 years instead of working to unite the country and bring us together like using the event to start a war for oil to enrich billionaires which ultimately led to the 2008 recession which we've never recovered from. that's irony, baby
"My father Michael Massaroli...you do my dad's legacy and the legacy of all these victims no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate. We have seen a medley of people come up today, of all races, all religions, all creeds and this tragedy is just that, it's a tragedy. I've had to grow up and spend the past 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers and sisters, to hate on people who don't look like them. That's wrong. That does no honor to the victims here...please stop."

there’s a straight line from 9/11 to where we are today as a country.
I think that’s what is making this anniversary feel even more heavy.
I don’t think people born after 9/11 realize how much that event fucked everything up.
Yes, Trump pocketed 9/11 cash even though his 40 Wall Street building in Lower Manhattan suffered ZERO damage. Other sleazy building owners did it too. He told a reporter the place wasn't hit, then stuck his hand out anyway.
What's truly disgusting is what the serial lying conman did next. He publicly pledged $10,000 to the Twin Towers Fund after Howard Stern's drive. New York City's comptroller later found no record of that donation in the year after the attacks. He grabbed the reimbursement. He stiffed the pledge. First in line when the government was writing checks. Nowhere to be found when he was supposed to write one. This is the duplicitous piece of shit Trump has been for his entire adult life.
the part of new york that vickie represents are losers who remain here in spite of the city and everything that makes it worthwhile. they are just prospective and eventual future florida residents whose daily life has no resemblance to probably 3/4ths of new yorkers at least
I don’t expect folks who weren’t alive or weren’t in NY for 9/11 to fully grasp how debilitatingly frozen with fear it left us, but still a bit strange to see it shift into a popular cheap punch line in a lazy joke, and now a legit discourse point of “why do we still care?”
Speaks more to how generally desensitized to tragedy, and the visuals that accompany it, we are now, which is scary in its own right. Most people had never, ever seen anything like the second tower falling on tv, now you can’t swipe for an hour on social media without seeing something similar.
it's remarkable how terrible 9/11 was insofar as having no redeemable consequences. ww2 gave us the post-war liberal order, the civil war ended slavery, ww1 gave us a semblance of an intl system. 9/11 had basically no significant positive outcomes
Republican firebrands hate everything about New York City and New Yorkers except in the first week of September where they have to pretend to care about us because this is where 9/11 happened and they need to weaponize our city’s pain to whip up their toxic cocktail of bombastic exclusionary nationalism and Islamophobia. Never let them.
