A lot of the key figures had Welsh connections, Stephen Beattie V.C HMS Cambletowns commander was from Montgomery, Mickey Wynn commander of MTB74 , was from Merionethshire & Captain Bill Pritchard Royal Engineers who was one of the main demolitions experts was a Cardiff man

Yesterday I met @whitehelmet whose Gr. Uncle, Sam Haighton, was the XO of ML192. Already awarded the George Medal prior to the #GreatestRaid, his ML was hit and on fire and he pulled his CO from the water. His bravery is an inspiration to the current sailors of 1PBS. @HMSExploit

After the #GreatestRaid the Germans fortified the coast around St Nazaire to prevent further attacks, disguising this observation bunker as a house for the guns hidden inland. The area was not liberated until 08 May 45 when the Germans surrendered. https://t.co/iw6xpEgEyj
