@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska But also, people find arbitrary reasons to quit locals all the time, imo it really shouldn't be surprising that having to play a dick regularly would be the straw on the camel's back imo
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska If this is what you think, you should talk more with the people in NE who actually experienced this first hand because it seems like you have a huge disconnect with your perception and the actual reality of what people going to our locals felt.
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska Am I misreading your post? I feel like acknowledging that not everyone is there to win perfectly describes why someone would rather just go meet other friends or netplay instead of traveling 40 minutes and being forced to play 10-15 minutes of degenerate gameplay
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska If you're thinking in terms of majors, then yeah it's not dissimilar to DQing. For a local tho, most amount of time wasted in such a way is worse than a DQ. Imagine being an 0-2er and experiencing this at my first local, I would never go back even if it was a 5 minute timer.
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska 5 minute timers are still a significantly long time and tbh the scheduling has always been the least important consequence, it's just brought up because it's another way to make the local TO's life harder for no real reason
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska Shortening the timer can mitigate the time spent, but it doesn't solve the fundamental frustration that Smash doesn't have the design or out-of-game enforceable rule to prevent someone from griefing their opponent and the tournament via the timer.
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska The core problem is "what if someone plays to stall out the timer but doesn't care about winning?" The outcome would be the same if the timer was 3 minutes or even 60 seconds, the only difference is the amount of time everyone wastes.
@LocusSK@fx2lol@ThePompf@r0nska Tbf suggesting a lower timer already shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue, which means either you haven't thought about it that much or aren't arguing in good faith, so I'm not really sure there is an interesting discussion from the angle you're coming from.
@Kiwifruit959 in comparison Kirby's recovery is really really really bad. Like maybe worst in the game bad. Even if Zelda's recovery was as bad as you said it was (which it isn't imo) it would still be many many times better than Kirby's.
@Kiwifruit959 Many characters actually struggle to get meaningful punishes at certain distances and percents thanks to this combination, and it's useful enough to even be used out of disadvantage. Utilizing up-b was actually one of the main contributors of Jmook's run that tourney
@Kiwifruit959 I'll be real imo ranked is far more disingenuous of a comparison than an actual real regional result regardless of who did it. Also dishonest to say that they could do it with any character, can't tell me with a straight face any of them could do it with bowser
@Kiwifruit959 And that's not to mention that Zelda's recovery is orders of magnitude better than Kirby's which is in argument for worst in the game. Jmook got 5th at Fight Pitt 10 beating multiple top 70 and fringe top 100 players by doing nothing than 3-4 moves.
@Kiwifruit959 I actually disagree mostly because bair/fair are such incredible moves that most of the time the stats matter less. ex, all of Samus tilts on shield get punished by fair/bair and once Zelda has the lead her traits allow her to play a solid defense game vs most of the cast
@Kiwifruit959 I think you're overselling Kirby's traits by calling them mediocre. Almost all of them aren't just below average but actively terrible, and the combination of some of those traits compound them to make them even worse than the sum of their parts.
@Kiwifruit959@rishissb Another element imo you're missing out on is that just because a character has more functional moves, it doesn't mean they have more moves in neutral. Realistically you only have to worry about 2-4 of Kirby's moves in neutral too and his terrible traits make them similarly linear
@Kiwifruit959@rishissb i think it's still fair to say Kirby is the better character, I just think the metrics you're using to come to that conclusion are way too insufficient to prove anything by themselves.
@Kiwifruit959@rishissb My point is that Zelda's traits are good enough where she only needs 3-4 moves to work some semblance of a neutral/defensive game whereas even if Kirby has (slightly) more "functional" moves, his traits actively work against him using them properly.
