Happy Birthday America! I know there are many competing demands that this 4th of July be ignored, but Iβve never been one to follow the crowd, or its orders, like ever!
America may have many serious problems, as do all countries, but itβs still the best there is imo. It is not exceptional because itβs rich, as our clueless mayor has announced (Qatar & Saudi Arabia are rich but nobody calls them exceptional) but because of all that it has innovated and offered the world.
My family and I landed here in 1979, traumatized, shell shocked and having lost everything. I had to make my way in this world on my own, and I did. We all worked hard and were able to get to a better place, because this is still a land of possibility and opportunity for many.
Iβm the last one left and I choose to celebrate this 4th of July, because freedom is my unalienable right. Iβve lived in other countries, been to other countries, and America is simply the best! From its melting pot culture and all the different states, to its many innovations, freedoms, natural beauty, economic opportunities, progressive tendencies, standards of living and the Bill of Rights! You donβt get any better than this, and thatβs why so many risk everything to get here. Iβm immensely grateful to this country for saving my life and the lives of my family and giving us a chance to pursue life, liberty and happiness.
I always say, I was incredibly lucky to have grown up in Iran before the Islamic revolution, enjoying the greatest freedoms any girl could in the Middle East. And after that I got to live in New York City for 47 years and enjoy the greatest freedoms as a woman. Both were gifts that I hope others can have to moving into the future!

Agreed, Iβve always seen it as more of a split between artists approved by the gatekeepers vs indie artists. Much of the trajectory since street art and the 80s has been towards indie artists, with media facilitating the rise, whether Web 3 can fully make the shift even more for decentralization & indie artists will depend on how much it can retain its inherencies as the rentseekers continue to crash it and turn it more into the trad art world, or the usual enshitification .

@0xZhao888 Yes, it was a story of innovation, of individual mavericks, small communities that nurtured major revolutions with huge impact, not one of institutional visibility. Maybe I have to write about it.
The problem with framing the Cannon of Digital Art around MOMA, LACMA, and the Tate is it a bit like framing the cannon of Cinema around Broadway and the West End. What was the cannon of Digital Art about, Institutional visibility or artistic innovation? Your thoughts?
