@CCantonii @h1ghwaycavalier @sharghzadeh Depends. The characters are designed with mnemonics in mind. With proper instruction, ditching the HSK method and actually learning them in sentences you can learn to read over 3000 characters in a year and to write most of them.
That means you can hold a basic job.

@CCantonii @sharghzadeh The characters aren't that difficult. They are just a lot. Also Chinese works with them. The main issue is the typical chinese language course teaches you the wrong characters and very little vocabulary with near 0 speaking practice.

Consider this. Old HSK1 teaches you 150 words... New HSK1 300 words. If you finish all the HSK6 courses your level is not enough to be fluent.

There is simply not an easy pathway to learn the language.

@sharghzadeh Chinese is hard to start to learn due to the tones and lack of loanwords. But the biggest problem is that 99% of educational material are designed to make you pass a test and not to reach fluency. It's extremely frustrating needing to spend most of your time trying to find how

@NabiaLoverio @sharghzadeh It was the Eastern Roman Empire. Everyone and themselves called themselves Romans. The term Hellenic meant pagan at the time. They even called their language Ρωμέικα. They didn't adopt Greek as their main language until the 6th century.
