Detective Shane Naidoo, linked to the Cato Manor death squad, is one of them. In my store he stepped on the throat of a handcuffed Black suspect (see 2:35). He reportedly took a trophy photo of an African suspect he had shot and shared it around the unit for laughs. (Photo attached.)

He started out as a clerk in Booysen’s office at the provisional headquarters. That’s where this culture grows. He didn’t become a racist cop by accident—he was shaped by a system that normalized violence, racism, and impunity.

This isn’t a one-off. It’s what happens when police units stop seeing Black people as human and start treating the dead as souvenirs. Protecting men like this is how abuse survives. Calling it out is the bare minimum.
