What do they say about preparedness and LUCK?

As someone who believes in LUCK which I call Labour Under Correct Knowledge.

I’ve seen people apply for opportunities several times without getting it, and encountered others apply just once and get in.

What separates the two is often called luck, but most times we fail to see the thin line that actually makes the difference in their applications.

A few years ago during my internship search, I had only two options Schlumberger (SLB) and TotalEnergies.

SLB pays higher compared to TotalEnergies but their worksite is in Port Harcourt. TE on the other hand gives 3 options (Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt)

I settled for TE Lagos. I applied, wrote the assessment, and boom, I got in.

Many people applied but only a few were selected. I would say getting the right information plays a major part in this.

Sometimes, understanding the process better makes you an outlier.

And most times, that is the real difference between “almost made it” and “I got in.”

Yesterday I did one of my expert consulting calls.

I charge $500/hr.

The call lasted 66 mins so they sent me $550.

It was not the 1st, 2nd or 100th time I have gotten on one of those calls but this hit differently.

How did I become someone people pay $500 an hour for just to pick my brain on this or that?
