Gianluca Sardi, who has been a huge Millwall fan since 2008, is always enthusiast in his research on football heritage and on the impact of sports on the life of communities.

At the moment, with the precious support of fellow Lions fans Rob Woodford and Dave Sullivan, he is also working on a research project that examines the life of the legendary Dr. William Murray-Leslie, founder and first chairman of Millwall Rovers, that later became Millwall Football Club. Dr. William, who was also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, an esteemed doctor (who had his practices both on the Isle of Dogs and in Belgravia), an excellent physician and a very reliable barrister-at-law, was also very active towards the support of community based initiatives in the area around the old London Docklands, especially as far as the younger generations were concerned.

On Saturday 12 September, Gianluca Sardi (Professor of English Language at the Department of Political Science of the Università Internazionale delle Pubbliche Amministrazioni in the Republic of San Marino and Director of the Academy of Anglo-Italian Comparative Law and Bioethics in Manchester, UK) had the privilege to meet the Blackburn Rovers Football Club Official Andrew Thornhill at Ewood Park, before the starting of the game between Rovers and Millwall.

It was an excellent opportunity to share the historical connections between the San Marino football and Blackburn. Firstly, Gianluca highlighted the career of Lorenzo Amoruso, who spent three years at Ewood Park from 2003 to 2006, before terminating his career at Cosmos in the Republic of San Marino in 2008. Even if his time in Lancashire was characterized by some bad injuries, the Blackburn fans have never forgotten his never-say-die attitude and his strong commitment on and off the pitch.

Moreover, the duo remembered also Millie Chandarana, who played both in Blackburn and in San Marino with the San Marino Academy and is always a huge inspiration for so many young female footballers.

Gianluca was invited on the pitch and was very enthusiast to hear the fascinating history of the Riverside Stand, which was built directly on the banks of the River Darwen.

The Millwall Supporters’ Club is remembering former Lions player Hugh Curran who passed away on 2 September 2026 at the age of 82.

Hugh signed professional forms at The Den in March 1964. Finishing his first full season with 19 goals, he was the club's leading scorer as we won promotion from the fourth tier in 1965. Hugh made 57 appearances between 1964 and 1966 and scored 26 goals for the Lions.

Hugh’s funeral will be held this coming Friday (25/9), at 2pm, at South Oxfordshire Crematorium Garford.

Sending our condolences to his friends and family. He will forever be a Lion

@littlemurph77 ran the Big Half on Sunday and is revisiting the route over the coming weekends in preparation for his charity run from Upton Park to the Blue in order to raise money for Millwall fan Kris, who is battling a stage four brain tumour, on Saturday 17 October, ahead of our game v Lincoln at The Den.

Scott, a West Ham fan, said "I'm overwhelmed by the love from the Millwall family"

Scott's fellow Hammers fans have shared his fundraising page amongst their own fan groups and so many other supporters have donated and shared too.

Scott will end his run at around 11.30am and will be met by family and friends - old and new - at the Blue Anchor Bermondsey where Jackie has promised a warm welcome 🍺🦁

The Millwall Supporters' Club remain in contact with Scott and have promised to share how preparations are going - as well as showing the first picture of Scott in his yellow Fairview shirt!
