@nntaleb Am I missing something? This seems to state that cherrypicking data based on two random factors can produce results that could not be reproduced in the population from which the cherries were picked.

"Employees are spending, on average, nearly a quarter of their shifts dealing with problems – up from just over a third last year."
Nearly a quarter (below 25%) is less than over a third (above 33.3%).

Given Germany's role in initiating two world wars, their reluctance to do anything that might lead to a third is understandable.
Would it be possible for Germany to cede authority to transfer exported weapons to @NATO GenSec @jensstoltenberg? @ChathamHouse et alcould this work?
@paulg It would be interesting to differentiate between voluntary and involuntary shifts in balance sheet wealth, equally interesting to measure the difference in their impacts.

Has anyone enquired about scrap metal shipments arriving from the region by sea?
Are ports as thorough in their checks as airports?

... In a response published within the report, Lidl said it had “committed itself to ensuring minimum wages in its supply chain and to ensuring the sustainable pre-planning of the production of textile goods”.

@paisatish@rorysutherland@julianHjessop There's a 3 month free, cancel anytime, no £ upfront offer on now. If you use a disposable card such as @RevolutApp's you're guaranteed to never pay a penny!
It's about the only thing that Revolut's good for these days, otherwise its 'Starling for your Sterling' @StarlingBank
@rorysutherland@julianHjessop This is hardly a form of wealth distribution that reaches the parts that other forms do not. It certainly has distributed wealth amongst the readers of the @Telegraph
In 1950 the average house price was about 5 times the average salary, in 1960 about 2.5.

The only thing I'd add is 'atonement', the bridge to redemption. A bridge, I might add, that I am very familiar with.
@ShekharGupta@SohamDraws Excellent piece. Two questions:
Is this situation unique to India, or is it to be found in all/most liberal democracies?
What/is there a role for the media in creating an environment where genuine political engagement yields positive returns at the ballot box?
@lunaperla@FryRsquared I'd forgotten about 'Against the Gods'. The first third is a history of our species understanding of probability. The rest is fairly ordinary, but that first third - wow!
@FryRsquared In no particular order,
A journey to the ants - Bert Holldobler & E.O. Wilson
Guns Germs Steel - Jared Diamond
A short history of nearly everything - Bill Bryson
An Anatomy of Thought - Ian Glynn
Factfulness - Hans Rosling
All pale and male, not stale. Open to diverse suggestions
@DrFrancesRyan Surely you're not suggesting that parents who choose to send their children to a private school are, implicitly if not explicitly, supporting a two tier education system designed to preserve wealth, privilege and inequality?
@sarfrazmanzoor@stephenkb Me neither, it was that rarest of rare occurrences on Twitter, a genuine question - at least as to which would do better; I'm guessing neither would be economically viable, the majority of those interested would be able to read the English language original.
@sarfrazmanzoor just added https://t.co/HAR6K1l9Mm to my reading list(reminded by @stephenkb's article in today's FT).
If 'They' was translated into Urdu and Hindi which would sell more?
Is their sufficient domestic interest in the diaspora for either to be economically viable?
