The Nation Journalism Foundation (tNJF) successfully commemorated World Press Freedom Day 2026 with a high-level multi-stakeholder dialogue on the theme: “Shaping a Future at Peace: Promoting Press Freedom for Human Rights, Development, and Security” 1/3.
The brutal murder of Wendy Achumba, is a painful reminder that femicide and violence against women in Nigeria remain a national emergency.
Justice must be swift and decisive.
We all must unite against the brutal killing of women and girls.
Enough is enough.
Today, we celebrate the strength, dreams, and potential of every boy child.
Boys deserve safe spaces, quality education, positive mentorship, emotional support, and opportunities to thrive.
Happy International Day of the Boy Child. 💙

Beyond the discussions, the event reinforced a shared belief: a free press remains essential to accountability, democracy, and social progress.

It is a common misconception that press freedom belongs only to the newsroom.
True press freedom is an asset in every society.
When a story helps someone make sense of their world, press freedom moves beyond the journalist. It becomes a public asset.

This incident is deeply troubling and unacceptable.
Just days after marking World Press Freedom Day, it is a stark reminder that threats to journalists remain a lived reality.
No journalist should be harassed or assaulted for expressing an opinion or carrying out their duty.
