In most places for headache you will see an Optometrist to rule out refractive error, do a dilated fundoscopy and Visual field scan including colour vision test, if all is fine he sends you back to your GP. I understand the neuro part though

@IDantagada @Moh_eye_doctor Are you aware we refer certain conditions to the ophthalmologist? How do you refer what you don’t know? No house officer can battle even a 600level Optom in Ocular path, contact lens, low vision and binocular vision

@Nosa__igbinosa @Moh_eye_doctor I think everyone knows their scope and limit, no Optom said they know better than an ophthalmologist but you see that HO or MO we know this eye thing pass them. How many MO have ever handle a BV issue

@Nigerian_Doctor No one can doubt the stuff consultant ophthalmologist does but for Doctors to claim MO know more than Optom in eyecare that was a slap. I guess that brought the comparison. Beyond X most of us collaborate very well with Ophthalmologist

Doctor of pharmacy and doctor of physiotherapy weren’t a thing before I left Naija, but I worked with a doctor of optometry for more than 10years in the same teaching hospital. In fact, he is still my very good friend. Never for once did he say he is a medical doctor. Every staff of the hospital knew his designation, and we had trainee ophthalmologist and consultant ophthalmologist working seamlessly with him in the same department.
What’s the stress about who should be addressed as doctors?
So far everyone is correctly identified with their designation, job description well outlined, and Nigerians know the difference between each doctor, what’s my own.
