Apple is developing a new iPhone security feature that automatically locks the device when it detects it has been snatched, according to code discovered by 9to5Mac. The system combines accelerometer data to sense sudden erratic movement, Apple Watch proximity monitoring to detect rapid separation, and location context to assess whether the phone is in a familiar environment.

Once a theft is detected, the iPhone locks immediately and activates restrictions under Apple's existing Stolen Device Protection layer. The feature mirrors Android's Theft Detection Lock from Google but adds an extra layer through Apple Watch integration.

Apple is bringing a wave of AI-powered features, including an AI web search tool in Safari to rival Perplexity. Siri is getting a redesigned interface in the Dynamic Island, showing a “Search or Ask” prompt with a glowing cursor. 5G satellite internet is also rumored, potentially covering Maps, Messages, Photos & third-party apps.

iOS 27 will be released in WWDC on June 8. Public release expected September 2026.
