To be clear, the Crown suggested that these texts were highly incriminating, which was an available inference. But they did not have to be seen that way, and there are aspects of the texts that are reminding everyone to "tell the truth".
Strangely, the judge didn't see it that way. See paras 566-570. But hey, I'm sure you can interpret the mindset of these people better than a very well-experienced judge.
@petersankoff What do you know about the law? Next thing you're going to say is that the Judge was in a better position to determine the facts than the media, or the mob of people who were outside on the streets. We need to go back to the days of witchcraft trials. The people had more agency.
The College of Law @usask@UsaskLaw and the Defence Lawyer's Association would like to thank the @SaskatoonPolice Saskatoon Police Service and Det. Sgt. Robbie Sampson for his excellent presentation today on "Polygraphs & Interview Techniques". Det. Sgt. Sampson has been a great friend to the College of Law and we are thankful for his support. For several years he has volunteered his time teaching my advanced criminal law class and speaking to lawyers on matters of importance to our Bar. Thank you Sgt. Sampson
The Outstanding Pfefferle Law @ThHyn@Metivier1Nathan and Catriona Kaiser-Derrick arguing an important case this morning on the Good Samaritan Law. This is an important appeal for anyone concerned with our most vulnerable #harmreduction#opioids#opioidcrisis https://t.co/o5dEwyPp6p
How are we still driving on winter roads in 2024? Feels like the Jetsons lied to us, and we’re stuck in Little House on the Prairie: Frostbite Slip n Slide Edition
The amazingly talented Zachary Carter of Pfefferle Law and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra @SSOyxe performed ELF last night. Our colleagues who were fortunate to attend unsurprisingly gave great reviews!! If you think he was good, you should see him in Court!
One of many of my former students who are killing it. Kennedy is going to be an amazing defence lawyer. Our late friend and Rhodes Scholar, Henry Kloppenberg would be proud. #UsaskLaw
The only one luckier than Pfefferle Law to have this 4 month superstar @UsaskLaw lawyer @Metivier1Nathan is the client he is representing with distinction on his 1st jury trial. Currently doing his closing submissions with the excellence of a veteran.
Congratulations to my friend Mark Brayford, who 45 years ago today joined @LawSocietySask becoming one of the leading criminal lawyers in Canada. Thankfully he is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
