REGARDING BIG BEND:

1. Of course there need NOT be a 30 foot bollard fence through a scenic national park that is brutal to traverse & represents a negligible fraction of illegal border traffic

2. Of course it needs to be secure

3. I was told SPECIFICALLY by high-ranking officials they are only putting in a caliche road with buried cables for tech monitoring plus vehicle barriers consistent with other national parks to prevent vehicles from going places they should not, and nothing more - I was told this in April and again last night

4. Congress - and specifically the Texas delegation - must get a full briefing on this issue from the administration

5. The administration must make clear to the public their intentions - and I expect that clarity to align with what I was told (and need to see the specific plans for).

6. I would add - physical barriers are only as good (in Laredo, Del Rio, Brownsville, or anywhere) as our efforts to CODIFY the changes to the abused Asylum, Parole, & catch/release Border policies that so badly broke our system during the Biden administration… a bill which I introduced and passed out of the House Judiciary Committee in July. We should pass it in the full House.
