BREAKING: The Supreme Court just let stand a bankruptcy tactic known as the “Texas two-step” — a corporate escape hatch for companies facing massive lawsuits.
Instead of facing victims in court, companies can move those claims into a separate shell company, send it into bankruptcy, and leave victims fighting for years while the real money stays protected.
@saintsoftness The answer is obviously Scaramouche, because we hope he'll do the fandango. (But seriously, it's really Pierrot, because he's the only character with enough modern currency to turn up in unlikely places, such as in ceramic masks on teenage girls' bedroom walls.)
@isaiah_bb possibly nothing more solipsistic in the entire world than the israeli belief that the real Evil of Human Shields is that killing the human shields makes you feel bad. and therefore palestinians love it when you kill them because it makes israelis so sad :(
American journalists once made up a fictitious "Palestinian PLO leader" in Lebanon out of thin air, called him "Abu Rashid", & turned him into "the most quoted PLO commander in the entire middle east", b/c they couldn't/didn't want to interview real PLO leaders
Philip Caputo revealed this 3 decades later
Imagine how many "Abu Rashids" are widely quoted in mainstream media today!
BREAKING: DHS just waived all environmental laws to blast border barriers and roads through Big Bend National Park.
This marks the first time in American history the feds have gutted dozens of laws to push industrial-level construction through a national park.
🇧🇴 🇺🇸 | Civil war-type scenes are emerging from Bolivia.
The government passed a law authorising US-backed President Rodrigo Paz to deploy the military against protesters.
Bolivian police and military forces have launched a joint operation to clear strike blockades in San Julián, Santa Cruz department, as a five-week general strike against neoliberalism continues to grip the country.
The crackdown came with full government backing — multiple ministers arrived for what was intended as a photo opportunity declaring victory over the movement.
Instead, entire communities mobilised, forcing security forces to retreat after more than four hours of sustained resistance on the highway.
The mobilisations, demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz, have left at least ten people dead, 37 injured, and over a hundred facing prosecution, according to the Ombudsman's Office.
Meanwhile, in El Alto — the indigenous city encircling the capital — daily popular assemblies are being held where communities vote on strike strategy and assess the movement's progress. A new form of grass-roots democracy is taking shape on the streets.
Not enough people know that the DOJ is keeping the part of Trump's IRS settlement in place that shields Trump and his family from IRS audits.
That's *extraordinarily* corrupt. Don't let it fly under the radar. https://t.co/4I2ovkLZQq
59 years ago the ancient Mughrabi Quarter of Jerusalem was razed to the ground, in order to build the Western Wall Plaza. Yes, the place where celebrities like to visit and show their support for the racist, genocidal, apartheid state of Israel.
--------
The Mughrabi Quarter of Jerusalem, established in the 12th century, was located in front of the Wailing Wall, and on the eve of its destruction was home to around 650 Palestinians. Immediately after its occupation in June 1967 it was completely demolished, overnight, by the Israeli authorities.
Although most inhabitants were forcibly evacuated in the hours prior to the demolition, a few people were later found dead amongst the ruins. Some of the corpses were disposed as garbage, thrown out with rest of the rubble.
All of this was done in order to make room for the Wailing Wall Plaza, a spacious, photogenic plaza for Jewish worshippers and tourists.
In the photos: the Mughrabi Quarter in 1917, the demolition in 1967, and the plaza nowadays.
A coalition of civil rights groups filed a federal class-action lawsuit over the "horrific" and "inhumane" conditions at Camp East Montana, a desert tent facility on the Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, Texas.
The concentration camp opened in August 2025 and it's the nation's largest immigration detention center.
There are allegations of guard beatings, abusive solitary confinement, inadequate medical and mental-health care, disease exposure, and coercion to sign deportation papers.
A recent inspection found 49 violations of detention standards, and at least 3 people have died in the facility's first 9 months.
This is a real-life horror movie: Military base with a concentration camp in the desert. Thousands of detained people isolated from public view. Human rights violations shrouded in secrecy.
Top-secret clearance requires vetting for insider threats. One standard red flag: hostility to the US government. Another: foreign military interest.
Irizarry entered the Capitol through a window with a metal pole. Was convicted. Pardoned. Allegedly texted about joining Russia's military if America's wouldn't have him. Now works in Pentagon counterterrorism with top-secret clearance.
The vetting process produced this result because the vetting process is now loyalty. The clearance follows from the pardon. The pardon followed from January 6th. The circle is complete.
Now I get it!
“The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident.
That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first.”
Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.

Pregnant girls as young as 13 are being held in a remote Texas immigration facility while a member of Congress (Rep. Maxine Dexter) says she was blocked from speaking to them. Some of these pregnancies are the result of rape.
This is one of the most horrifying immigration stories right now in the USA.
How many pregnant children are there? Where are these girls coming from? Where are they being sent? Are they getting real prenatal care? Do they have access to proper legal representation? Are newborn babies being ripped out of their mother's arms? Why are members of Congress being blocked from speaking with them?
No agency should be able to hide where vulnerable kids are being sent. We need to free these children and give them healthcare, lawyers, family reunification, and safety.
