Stop thinking that more editing = better retention.
Sometimes adding more effects makes a Short harder to follow.
Every zoom, sound effect and transition should have a purpose.
Good editing directs attention.
Bad editing competes for it.
A good hook does 3 things:
Establishes context immediately
Creates curiosity
Gives viewers a reason to stay
If viewers are confused about what’s happening, they’ll probably swipe.
Clarity comes before curiosity.
Unpopular opinion:
A simple idea executed perfectly will outperform a complicated idea executed poorly.
Some creators spend hours editing a Short that was never interesting in the first place.
The idea matters more than the effects.
One thing I constantly emphasise when helping Shorts creators:
Stop judging your videos purely by views.
Study WHY a video performed well or poorly.
Views are the outcome.
Viewer behaviour is where the lessons are 💯
Your first 2 seconds are arguably the most important part of a YouTube Short.
Before worrying about editing, ask yourself:
“Would someone who has never seen my channel have a reason to keep watching?”
If the answer is no, your hook needs work.
A student recently asked me how to get more comments on his YouTube Shorts.
My answer? Subtle CTAs.
Most creators make the mistake of directly asking viewers to comment.
Instead, give them a REASON to comment.
- include a conteversial clip
- create topics that your viewers will be split on so they argue in the comments (e.g Ronaldo is the goat)
- take the viewer on an emotional rollercoaster with differing emotions.
The best CTAs don’t feel like CTAs.
Make viewers WANT to engage, rather than telling them to.

This Sunday I'm doing a Q&A + content review. We’ll answer YouTube questions, review videos, and give advice on what you can improve. We’ve done $30K+ in a month with YouTube Shorts, so we’ll share what’s worked for us. Bring your questions/videos 📷 SUNDAY 7PM CST

I have just created a quick breakdown of the factors you need to be aware of to break 0 view jail and 30k jail. enjoy and take some notes for this one

WE WANT HUMAN REVIEWERS BACK.🙏
Before AI, we had human reviewers who actually looked at our cases, checked our content, understood the context, and listened to creators. We felt heard.
But after AI became a bigger part of YouTube, everything started feeling more automated. It feels like YouTube is trying to save money by replacing human reviewers with AI.
And now, WE ARE THE ONES SUFFERING.
When AI makes a mistake, it doesn’t lose anything.
We lose our monetization. We lose our income. We lose years of hard work.
We are real people who spend countless hours building our channels. We deserve to have a real human look at our cases before a decision can destroy everything we’ve built.
WE DON’T WANT MORE AI.
WE WANT HUMAN REVIEWERS BACK. 💔
We want someone who will actually watch, understand, listen, and care.
Please don’t let creators become just another decision made by an algorithm
If you are experiencing lower views recently in the ranking niche you are not alone.
Even top performing ranking channels are getting lower than average views rn.
Hopefully this gets resolved soon 🙏
POV: your 2 top competitors get hit at the same time and you don't😂
This just proves basic business logic - the traffic has to go somewhere since the demand is still there but the supply has decreased.
A lot of people come to me asking 'why is my vid not getting pushed' within like 4hrs of them posting 😭.
Below is an example of what can happen to a vid that does not get pushed 3 days later ⬇️
