Ok then, point me towards the many modern inspirational statues that celebrate western culture, celebrate aspiration and ambition and inspire us to think big, dream of greatness and beauty….

Just because it follows classical style doesn’t mean it’s not contemporary. The context of today is a culture that has lost touch with its history, too often celebrates infamy and celebrity rather than accomplishment.

This statue aims to remind the world and the people who visit Starbase of what it means to aspire to beauty, grandeur and grace amongst a sea of boring architecture, cost-minimalism, ugly but “modern” art and uninspired city scapes.

This is not larping. This is a cultural message worthy of being heard throughout the west.

The audacity and boldness of the artists to pursue this mission amongst the tutting and self satisfied clicking of tongues from the culturati who have deemed themselves the arbiters of worthiness is itself a perfect reflection of the statue’s primary message to SpaceX and humanity.

Regardless of the naysayers, the doubters, the armchair critics and so called experts (from art to aerospace)… pursue your dream, claim fire from heaven and be so bold as to believe you can change the world.

Original, timely, unique, beautiful, reflective and bold instigator of conversation and change. All the things which make art impactful.

These enter at supersonic speeds from high altitude, mostly burning up into dust. Only a small amount of debris would have landed in the ocean.

The debris fell exactly within this corridor, so no flights were at risk at any time unless they breached an exclusion zone. Similar exclusion zones are set up when a volcano erupts

@GeorgeMonbiot We should remove income tax and hike VAT/GST. Tax consumption at the source, the purchase. Then we need to increase fines and investigation for companies providing fringe benefits to avoid individuals paying it (paying your rent, car, dinners etc). Otherwise, encourage investment
