@jk_rowling 72 years ago, time enough for society to grasp the truth, according to inquest, Alan Turing committed suicide, the coroner referring to him as a person of this type”. Turing had been injected repeatedly with synthetic oestrogen, which he had been told would be good for him.
Mo dhuine ghràdhach. Bha thu ag obair cho cruaidh airson a’ phàrtaidh. Na h-uairean a bharrachd sin uile. Bha mi dìreach den bheachd gun robh iad air £400,000 a phàigheadh dhut ann an ùine a bharrachd.
Researching my Marshall ancestry to pre-medieval, they were yeoman farmer-clothiers, making the finest weave for Europe. Whovever painted these scenes never sheared a sheep, nor saw one being Sean. Working on my auntie’s farm, I learnt that sheep do not go lightly to the shears.
@FunkyAppleTree@MerlinBirdID France has seen a surge in nightingales, compared to England’s decline. This is the first time I knowingly heard one and it turned a pleasant evening into magic.
200 yrs ago, Whit, Dalton & friend W Henry were on Kinder Scout, measuring altitude of peak with D’s barometer. They got 700 yds, cf today 698.
But Dalton said to friend, abt Law of multiple proportions:
“Thou knows it must be so, for no man can split the atom.”
And now 200 years on, physicists say about the Standard Model (without climbing Kinder Scout):
“Thou knows it must be so, for no man can split the quark or lepton.”
What will physicists say in 200 years? If anyone still lives.
@EmmaSMaund I can assure you that after a day of 30C+ or sometimes 40C, to enter a bedroom where the AC chiller has been on for 2 hrs & to put your head on a cool pillow is one of the most exquisite experiences that technology has to offer. Straight off to sleep.
@EmmaSMaund And it was nice and cool on the cruiser trip to Cadaques today.
In the Mediterranean, you can actually see through the clear water to the bottom, unlike English rivers & beaches.
@EmmaSMaund On holiday in Spain where it’s pretty hot.
Back home in France, 32C today, I keep an eye on indoor/outdoor C in all rooms via WiFi dongles on each reversible heat pump. It all seems under control at 8pm today, ready for return on Wed. I can control all units from Spain. 22 good.
I love sea bream, esp salt baked. I once met a lovely couple in security Q @ Manch airport. I said they could pass me but no, 1st time abroad, they’d come 7 hrs early to enjoy.
“Where are you going?
“Costa Dorade!
“Do you like bream?
“Why?
Before packing for my regular May holiday in a small Spanish cove, I have allocated a sliver of boot space for my latest acquisition: a device, used in conjunction with a 4” x 4” clever box, giving me English TV with my morning coffees. Keeping up as the country ruinates.
