Today's signing of the Joint Declaration Europe for Culture-Culture for Europe by the EU institutions sends a clear message: culture is a pillar of our democracy, identity and economy.
Europe should support artists and artistic freedom as culture shapes Europe in the world.
If Europe wants to lead, it must invest in its ambitions:
🇪🇺 A EU budget with a social heart that addresses the cost-of-living crisis, and ensures competitiveness and cohesion.
‼️And it means our own resources: taxing big tech, online gambling and crypto assets.
We deliver.
Our president @IratxeGarper at the PES pre-EUCO:
💬 What we witnessed yesterday in the EP was not the Europe we believe in.
A shameful spectacle: the far right celebrating while the EPP picked up the bill. Anger, division and hate prevailed over the European values we stand for.
The EU must not remain silent while such abuses are committed by a country seeking its membership.
The European Commission must examine this case closely and respond accordingly. 🧵 3/3

This is a message of support for the Božović family @Balshone, who have become targets of Vučić’s regime.
What took place on Serbian television on June 7 was an unprecedented political and media witch hunt. 🧵 1/3
Serbia’s authorities must immediately stop this campaign of media lynching and public vilification of a family through hate speech, political intimidation, and blatant calls for persecution.
The country’s leadership must ensure the safety of the Božović family and uphold basic democratic standards. 🧵 2/3
Russian attacks against communities on the Union’s eastern border are attacks against Europe and require a common European response.
Europe must turn its defence rhetoric into action and accelerate the creation of a genuine European Defence Union.

Prevention, protection & addressing root causes - that’s how we stop organised crime recruiting children.
We welcome today's @Europarl_EN resolution: it's time to tackle social exclusion, educational and cultural poverty, and to hold online platforms accountable when criminals use them for recruitment.
Today, we adopted an S&D-led resolution urging an end to attacks against civil society, political actors, student organisations, and journalists and media in Burkina Faso.
Burkinabe authorities must stop repression, restore civic space and set out a credible path towards civilian rule and democracy.
We deeply regret today’s vote in the EU Parliament. The EPP, backed by the far right, wants to undermine the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive, weaken the polluter-pays principle and delay its implementation.

Hormuz was open before the war. He ‘solved’ a problem he himself started.
The real European solution is no more dependency on oil and gas.
@IratxeGarper on Trump’s ‘deal’.
We voted down a harmful report on tobacco taxation, prepared by the far-right and the EPP.
Attempts to surrender public health to the tobacco lobby resulted in an embarrassing failure for the EPP – and a win for public health

“Send them back” is just the first step. The far-right and right in the European Parliament saw the Trump playbook and thought “let’s bring it back” to Europe, by introducing an ICE-style deportation model.
“Send them back” is not a migration policy. It is a slogan of fear that paves the way for a much darker future.
Shame on those who applauded today's outburst in Parliament and who continue to back a Return Regulation that undermines fundamental rights and human dignity.
Xenophobia and racism should have no place in Europe, and we will keep fighting for an EU that defends fundamental rights, the rule of law and the dignity of every person.
More electrification in 🇪🇺 means security of grids & better interconnectivity between EU states.
It would boost transport and accelerate e-cars adoption.
Upon one condition - the Commission must set mandatory targets in its upcoming plan. Otherwise it is just wishful thinking.
For more than 550 days, Georgians have taken to the streets to defend their democracy, freedom and their European future.
They fight, despite growing repression and democratic backsliding by a regime that increasingly operates in the shadow of the Kremlin.
We stand with them!
Today, the 🇪🇺 Parliament reaffirmed Albania’s outstanding commitment to the EU, backed by overwhelming public support.
With all negotiation clusters opened in just 13 months and the recent completion of the mid-term review, Albania is clearly on the right path, although much work still lies ahead.
"Today, some are celebrating the agreement between the United States and Iran. And yes, any prospect of peace is welcome. But we must not forget the reality.
Where is the democracy that Trump and Netanyahu promised?" 🗨️ @IratxeGarper

The Return Regulation undermines fundamental rights, weakens safeguards, & takes EU migration policy backwards.
We reject this regulation, a product of EPP & far-right cooperation, and will vote against it in Plenary later today.
