one month into trenching and the trap i kept falling into when i was initially deploying was treating every hot new coin like it's going from 15m to 200m in a couple days.
we're still early in the cycle. that might happen a lot more later if onchain gets really hot, but right now most of these run to 20-30m, maybe 40, and then fall off, at least for a while. who knows maybe some bounce back and end up 20x.
i think i'd have done a lot better by being patient, picking a few that already showed real strength and buying their pullbacks. the market already tipped its hand on those. less upside than buying a shitter at 100k and praying, sure. but if you're going to be in the meat grinder anyway, that seems like the most +ev way to do it.
probably what i'll try going forward. just need to guess which will zero and which have a chance at a comeback.
I know ppl have been doing this for like 2 years but just discovered sub 500k mcap shitcoins on fomo and bought like 15 and got rugged on 14 of them within an hour
absolutely zero due diligence just picking based on ticker and if I found a thesis funny/interesting.
pretty addicting though
nobody talks about the version where it doesn't work.
when i went all in on sol last cycle i actually did the math on it hitting zero.
the answer was that i'd be fucked. back to a job i didn't love, paying off a bet that didn't hit, for years.
i knew that and did it anyway.
it worked. but there's a version of me in another timeline sitting in a cubicle right now instead of posting from my couch, and he made the exact same decision i did.
i was prepared. i was mostly lucky.
when you see somebody post a win you're seeing the outcome. you're not seeing the hundred guys who took the similar bets and got erased, because they deleted the account.
if you're looking at sizing into something right now, could you live in the timeline where it doesn't work?
if yes, let it rip.
a few weeks ago i made a tactical decision to play new cycle memes and dove in head first. that's most of why i've been quieter than usual.
why? zcash has been performing really well, so i decided i can get more aggressive with the meme side of my port.
sold all my fart and pepe. i still think they do well eventually, but i didn't really want to sit around and wait while there was other stuff with higher upside to buy. after all, i’m here to try and make money.
so i moved all of those proceeds into fomo.
first week i just bought pons. last week i bought a lot of other things.
when a boomer like me shows up to a meta that's usually the local top, which is about what happened.
pons is basically the only thing i'm green on. i'm down 30-50% on literally every other coin (for now, it's early innings).
i tried to pick what could be the leader in a few different ecosystems since i have no idea which one wins. wasn't early to any of them.
first time actually in the trenches. lots to learn and have def made some mistakes but that's the only way i'm gonna learn.
plan is to sit now. small punt if something new looks right. basically if i can see something higher in six or twelve months ill buy a meaningful amount for me.
question on the coinbase cbZEC asset.
coinbase custodies the underlying 1:1, that part is clear. what isn't clear is what would make them freeze the token in a wallet i control, or how a redemption at size gets handled.
supply is still small enough that i’d be most of the float, so I'd rather ask first than find out later.
if anyone knows who owns cbZEC policy over there, point me at them.
bought $microduck on fomo a few days ago. sitting on it through this dip.
this one is actually weird in a good way:
• real $399 ai robot duck you can buy from pollen robotics (hugging face’s hardware team). Nvda bought hugging face recently
• you drive the duck with a remote, it walks / roller skates / picks stuff up, and you can train it new behaviors. open-source so ppl can train the duck to do new things and your duck can learn those too.
• they opened preorders late august, blew through demand, first units start shipping over the next few months. now back ordered for the next 4-6 months
why buy this meme? it has a physical product in demand shipping into the same news cycle (unique).
high vitality potential and it’s still early until the ducks actually show up on peoples desks.
on fomo if you want the live position

sold hyperliquid.
locked in about $800k of profit.
it ran from 20 to 70 in the middle of a bear market. rn i think it needs a lot more time before it does anything interesting again.
might buy it back later. probably higher than where i sold.
position will be cash for now
at my last job i had a boss who wanted financial freedom as bad as i did. we talked about it constantly.
his plan: promotion every five years, max the 401k, index funds, monthly budget in a spreadsheet, retire at 55 on $100k a year spend.
mine: put everything in crypto and find
few mins ago i sat down to watch my kids swim.
kid one wants a sandwich. i go inside, upstairs, kitchen, back down to pool.
then kid two wants a yogurt pouch. inside, upstairs, kitchen, back down to pool.
then kid three wants a peanut butter bar. inside, upstairs, kitchen,
btc buy signal each bear: when the weekly bullish ao divergence shows up.
it never nails the exact bottom. historically it's been "good enough".
the 4th one just printed. patience needed, the next 3-6 months could be an absolute chopfest and i won't be trading it much.

in a bear market when you're waiting to buy, every bounce is excruciating.
you get within 5% of your bid and the internal negotiation starts. "close enough, right? what's another 5% when the upside could be 4x?"
rooting for prices to go down is its own special kind of stress. it's completely different from watching a position go against you.
nobody posts about this one though.
i top blasted $2.4m of fartcoin (down ~12% rn).
screenshot attached.
some context, i spent all of 2025 convinced meme mindshare had topped.
recent events made me reassess that. i kept coming back to the same question.
why does retail buy crypto?
every cycle the answer is the same: as a lottery ticket. a shot at turning $1k into $100k in a month. and in a bull run, memes pay out on that bet more often than the actual lottery does
but i have zero experience hunting new memes at $500k market cap and zero edge doing it. i'm too old and lazy for the trenches and i like being concentrated in a few charts i can actually watch.
so if i wanted meme exposure the criteria became: timeless, universally funny, tied to nothing that can go stale.
fartcoin fit that well. everyone farts. a 10 year old laughs at it and so does my mother. it spent stretches of 2025 leading risk sentiment through fomc meetings while triggering every tradfi account on this app.
it topped at $2.5b, a fraction of what the big dogs hit in 2021, and it's only one cycle old, so the lower highs death spiral that kills most alts hasn't had a chance to form.
this is a long term play. no, i don't know where it bottoms, i could be underwater for a long time waiting for risk on season. that's okay, im good with my entry.
i started buying down 92% from the high with a bullish divergence printing on the weekly rsi. the divergence alone is a coin flip, but it did make me feel better about hitting the buy button.
the underrated part: buying a meme lets me turn my brain off. no roadmap to track, no team to lose faith in, no tech thesis that can quietly break. the whole idea fits in one line: if times get good, people buy funny things and hold them while they go up.
people will ask for a target...
hot air rises.
in 2018 i fell into the "i'm waiting for lower" trap and ended up chasing much, much higher. here's what happened:
refused to buy until price hit my exact perfect bottom target.
target got front run. price ranged, chopped, lulled me to sleep.
"this is a bearish retest, shorts reloading, new lows are coming, there's no real demand"
price went up more.
"i'll buy the pullback." pullback never went as low as i wanted.
bought much higher, pissed off that i got psyop'd so bad.
could we see -30% from here? yes. no guarantees either way.
if your target is much higher 24 months out, trying to snipe the pico bottom is a good way to miss the train.
