Watching politicians use pronatalist fantasies as their main demographic policy is deeply frustrating because their arguments are based on total fiction.

State-funded birth incentives are unserious policies that have failed in every single corner of the globe.

The real-world proof of this failure is overwhelming. South Korea poured nearly three hundred billion dollars into subsidies and parental benefits over the last two decades, only to watch their birth rates hit world-record lows year after year. Japan even created a dedicated government agency to tackle the crisis through family funding, yet their population continues to shrink at an alarming speed. Hungary also spent a lot and failed. The story repeats itself from Western Europe to East Asia.

The absolute best these massive investments can do is put a tiny dent in the speed of the decline. They never bring a country back to a healthy fertility rate, and they certainly do not prevent a demographic collapse.

Our economic models require a functional labor force today to support the massive generation of retirees. Since we cannot wait decades for unborn children to enter the workforce, immigration is an absolute requirement to keep the lights on.

Trying to slow down the population drop with family-friendly policies is a noble effort that we should pursue. However, pretending that these policies can replace the immediate need for foreign workers is a complete lie, and the politicians selling this myth are completely unqualified to manage a country's future
