Our early exit from the World Cup is incredibly sobering. We fell well short of expectations and should have gone much further in this tournament. This ending hurts deeply.

I made the conscious decision to play for Germany once again. On the one hand, because it has always filled me with immense pride to wear the national team shirt. On the other hand, because at 40 years old, with the experience of four World Cups behind me, I wanted to support the younger players as much as possible, both on and off the pitch, and help German football.

Despite this bitter exit, I do not regret that decision for a single second. My disappointment is impossible to put into words, but what remains above all is profound gratitude.

Thank you for your support throughout all these years and during this tournament.
