Are you concentrating on what truly counts?
The Circle of Influence framework can guide you:
Big thanks to Jeroen Kraaijenbrink for explaining Stephen Covey’s concept so clearly.
It can reshape how you tackle challenges and live your life.
Here’s the breakdown:
1. Circle of CONTROL – What do I completely control?
These are things you have full power over:
Your mindset, actions, skills, behaviors, and even mistakes.
Focus your energy here to lower stress and build confidence.
2. Circle of INFLUENCE – What can I impact?
These are areas where you can affect outcomes but don’t have total control:
Like relationships, your work responsibilities, or ongoing projects.
Direct your energy to what you can influence most.
Release what’s beyond your reach.
3. Circle of CONCERN – What must I accept?
These are things outside your control that still affect you:
Weather, economy, laws, global events.
Accept these and redirect your attention to control or influence.
Why it matters:
Everyone’s circles are different.
For instance, a politician might influence the economy, but for most, it’s out of reach.
Organizing concerns this way lets you focus on where you can make a real difference.
How to use it:
1) List all your worries.
2) Sort them into Control, Influence, and Concern.
3) Act, influence, or accept accordingly.
The benefit?
Sharper focus, greater control, and less wasted energy.
P.S. Are you using your time on what truly matters?
