Insurance is the oldest of the four ways. It is a nine-trillion-dollar global industry. The equation underneath it was invented in 1560 by a broke Italian gambler.

His name was Girolamo Cardano. He wrote a book called Liber de Ludo Aleae. A short manual on how to win at dice. Nobody in finance read it for four hundred years.

Then in 1996 a ninety-year-old man in New York wrote a book that traced every modern risk model back to that manual. He called it Against the Gods. One thesis. Every dollar of premium ever collected on Earth is a footnote to a gambler scribbling in Milan.

His name was Peter Bernstein. He founded the Journal of Portfolio Management in 1974 and ran money at Bernstein-Macaulay before that. Wall Street called him the historian of risk.

In 2008 a small production company filmed him for thirteen minutes. He walked through the entire five-hundred-year arc. Cardano to Pascal to Fermat to Black-Scholes. Then he stopped and said the industry had built glass towers on the back of an idea a broke Italian scribbled to settle a card debt.

He died the following summer. Age ninety.

Reinsurance premiums crossed six hundred billion dollars last year. Every actuary on Earth prices catastrophe risk with the same expected-value framework Cardano invented to shave the house edge in Milan.

Almost none of them work in insurance.

Israel's warning was not about saving Trump's life. It was about shaping U.S. policy. A former official said it "fit a broader pattern" of Israeli intelligence designed to influence presidential decision-making. Turkish officials believe the report was fabricated to derail Trump's Iran negotiations and block Turkey's F-35 acquisition.

The U.S. was played. Turkey was locked down. And Israel got what it wanted.

Investigation finds the reason why prices on everyday products never seem to go down

Walmart is making secret deals with major Big Food companies to set the price of items. If a different store chain tries to sell an item for cheaper, big food companies create plans to force those stores to increase their prices to be higher than Walmart prices. They do things like cut their promotion rates and increase their wholesale rates

Because of this, Walmart sets the floor price. Whatever Walmart charges, no company can sell for cheaper because these secret deals will find ways to force those stores to increase their prices

This means prices can never go down because there is no competition, Walmart sets our prices for products with these secret deals

I'm starting to think the entire concept of a license plate reader is a sham. Data collection is a search so it requires a warrant or probable cause. That means you can't collect any data on us unless we've given probable cause.

The courts have ruled that individual police can use license plate readers but why should they be allowed to? When they collect data on us that is a search and if we have not given probable cause it should require a warrant. They clearly have no warrant, so they should collect NO data.

We can't tackle everything at once but I think once we get the momentum of our movement where it needs to be, we need to push back against and correct everything that is wrong with our current system.

In the end we need to wipe license plate reader technology off the map completely.
