While the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are lauded for their analytic departments, lost is the fact they have two of the top 10 largest scouting staffs.
In fact, the Rays have the largest pro scouting staff in MLB
Salary Caps don’t create parity.
They give owners cost certainty, suppress player pay long-term, turn free agency into a zero-sum fight, and make contracts less guaranteed.
Players already get over 50% of revenue; the owners’ proposal would shrink that.
The MLBPA advocated for a 28% minimum increase in salary for rookies and a 30% increase in pre-arb pool for player salary increases as well.
They quite literally DO care about every player in the base. This is a blatant lie.
From @MLBNetwork: The Rays (80 scouts) and Brewers (64) have two of the largest scouting departments in baseball. The Brewers (46 employees) and Rays (39) both rank in the top 7 in MLB in largest analytics departments.
Spending to win doesn't necessarily involve top free agents.
This guy just keeps stepping in it. The players have been angling for an increase in the minimum salaries every time. And got a significant one last time. That's exactly how you care about the non-stars. A cap system HURTS non-star free agents because it becomes a zero-sum game.
@jeffbatesx That’s why there’s a Luxury Tax. Problem is those teams are taking that money and putting it in their pockets instead of putting on the field.
GIANNIS JUST “PASSED TO HIMSELF” IN TRANSITION, TOOK ABOUT 47 STEPS, AND THEY CALLED IT A BUCKET…
You literally cannot pass the ball to yourself in the NBA. That’s a travel every single time at every level…
But superstar privilege is alive and well. Refs let him Euro-step from half court like it’s nothing…
This is why casual fans tune out. Same rules don’t apply to everyone…
How many more of these “missed” calls are we supposed to ignore this season?
It’s literally what I’ve been saying and fans can’t wrap their minds around it. This isn’t about competition but profit and franchise values, the cap reshuffles the finances around. If I was an owner I would want the same thing! There are better ways to create competitive integrity
Charles Barkley on When He Found Out How ‘Crazy’ Michael Jordan Was
“I'm looking at Karl Malone like, ‘Yo man, there's something wrong with this dude.’”
For my old friends at @BaseballAmerica, I compiled the sizes of each team’s scouting staff.
Note that many teams frequently renowned for their technology and analytics (Dodgers, Rays, Brewers) also have some of the largest scouting staffs in MLB.

So disrespectful to the the person who sings, to the teammates who stand next to him and to all the people in the arena who paid for the tickets and are sponsoring his billionaire life: He’s mocking every one of them.
He will never come close to MJ.
This is a fantastic conversation. Again, MLB is not the NFL. It’s not one player driven. NFL is a quarterback driven league, much like the NBA, one player can change your fortune. MLB can’t. The best player in the league can’t make a dynasty, even with a smart front office. Paul Skenes has made league minimum and can’t individually get his team to the postseason. MLB doesn’t have a star problem for small markets. They just can’t individually carry a team by themselves.
