You can drop an intentional fly on purpose. It is a ball that has been ruled an out by the umpire. If a player drops it intentionally it is still considered an out. The rule was put in place to prevent double and triple plays, not to be misinterpreted by staff.

I just saw a stat that if you counted every home-run that Barry Bonds hit as an out he would still have had a 3.08 obp! That’s insane! David Ortiz would have a 3.02 obp with all of his homers. 🤯
