10 year old boy asks me what I think he should do when gets to university.

I’ve noticed that he’s very good at fiddling with electronics. Always fixing something.

Does he need to go to Uni? I ask.

His parents want him to. They think he’d make a good lawyer because he’s intellectually curious.

I can’t contradict his parents.

I pull the dad aside. I tell him to let the boy learn a trade.

An electrician… a plumber… and to a smaller degree a carpenter.

That he should work as an apprentice while still at school and and aim to join a good polytechnic.

That’s what I would do..

AI is already doing the work of many junior lawyers, I think. It’ll be harder for them in the coming years.
