@martensmatt1 I'm convinced that a free movement of people and protection for sojourners is a crucial "biblical principle," for instance. This is not to suggest a willy nilly open borders with no rules, of course.

But the way Yahweh repeats his concerns for them in the OT is... Pretty major.

Generally, to cross a national border illegally is to rebel against God’s authority (Rom. 13:2).

Certainly any discussion of a Christian ethic of immigration must *include* an acknowledgement of these principles.

Obvs I'm nowhere near your level as a scholar, lol, but for me the context, reasons, and history of a law also come into play in a major way. With loitering and "illegal" immigration, I think both are foundationally immoral.
