Kind of feel like bragging, but also this is the first time I hit 1800 rated in rapid chess. It took my a solid 2 months of straight grinding but it happened. To get 1900 I'd have to be better than 8% more players. It's going to take way longer than 2 months but I'm grinding.
Why is it that all of the best Canadian clothing companies were founded in Montreal? It almost appears to be too much for coincidence! Maybe there's a conspiracy here...
1. I love slow chess. It's intense, and I need to be in good form to be able to get good results. 2. It is much harder to find good moves over the board when the stakes are high and you have never seen the position before. Every move is a commitment and you have to be certain.
Tonight I played in my first classical chess tournament. The format is 1 game a week for 5 weeks and I had a great game that I just uploaded into a study here: https://t.co/wgkGP2i6Hh I made some mistakes, but I still mated my opponent in 20 moves and am satisfied.
Next week will be tougher for sure and I will need to study intensely to achieve the same result. I broke my rule about never drinking coffee in the evening and instead worked on my study while it was still fresh in my mind. I learned a few things today.
Probably the best video on math on youtube I have watched yet! I really loved how this video touched on so many areas concisely and simply. I now understand Godel's completeness theorem. https://t.co/1tRtHl84Xw
Went to rogers today. I could get unlimited data and keep my current phone for $80 monthly or get a pixel 4a with 5gb for $75 monthly. I grabbed the new phone because 5gb is as good as unlimited but am keeping my sim card in my pixel 3 because I don't need a new phone.
I am blessed. Today I (by complete chance) met up with the guy that originally taught me how to play super smash bros melee (the best game of all time) in 2013. I never thought I would meet this guy again (largely because I forget his actual name). This is amazing.
@oop_suzuren Nah, juice me if you want (we have all been social distancing), but we have a mutual friend who has a birthday and are hanging out with a few friends.
@oop_suzuren Yeah, I thought his name was donatello, but his name was actually danilo. He is from siberia or something. Super cool dude. We are spending the night together in a random hotel in canmore.
3 things I learned from Moneyball:
1. Economists are always right
2. No-one listens to economists
3. If you decide to listen to an economist you'll likely end up being shafted by your peers
