@Malc66799386 @philhuwedwards @RobertBoswall No, we cannot not have shale gas on a scale to US. The UK might be able to get some years worth of gas supply at best, but it will be traded on the European gas market. US has a different market. There really is no comparison between the two.

@Phat_one @NEON_UK @tessakhan Financially it makes sense - for bills & longer term security. Risk of being left holding stranded o&g assets now v high. Tax payers will suffer. For climate, the UK might be relatively low but p/capita we r not. Our historic emissions are also world leading.

@Phat_one @NEON_UK @tessakhan No, world wouldn't have to follow. Lots of countries do not wanna stop. Think about countries who's revenue is >50% dependent on o&g. But we could demonstrate economic benefit & set ourselves up for what is coming. The o&g companies know it, they just want £ for long as poss.

@Phat_one @NEON_UK @tessakhan 1. Not possible but we could halt investment in new o&g & wind down fast. 200k o&g workers would need support & retraining during fast transition. Average fuel bills would come down as we rapidly roll out cheaper clean tech. Huge job demand. World would watch & we'd be leading.

It's horrendous and goes right to the core: "Natural" gas! L"N"G. Total "Energies". Then the lobbying, bribes, corruption. Cover up on their climate research...

Can you imagine the impact reduction in fossil use will have on petrostate revenues and oligarchs. The subsidies are with the fossils, which are not getting cheaper and are harder to find.

@spamjavelin84 @tractorgirly @thisiswiss @LondonWorldCom You need to read up. Transitions don't happen instantly. Wind and solar is far cheaper and rolling out fast. It's moving up the S curve. Just like previous transitions. Fossil is/has peaked. The longer nations delay the more the will pay.
