A judge has authorized Drake to serve an elusive key witness accused of using botting tactics in the defamation lawsuit against UMG over Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" through secondary methods.
On Wednesday (Aug. 6), U.S. District Judge Jeanette A. Vargas approved Drake's legal team's motion to serve Kojo Menne Asamoah through alternative means, such as certified mail, email and door-posting. Drake's attorneys identified Asamoah as one of the more than 60 individuals they plan to subpoena to testify in the case. Drake's lawyers state that Asamoah "possesses knowledge relating to UMGโs use of covert tactics" to promote "Not Like Us."
Drake also believes Asamoah was involved in "directing payments and/or financial incentives from UMG to third parties involved in online botting for the purpose of artificially inflating the streaming numbers of ['Not Like Us']," according to court documents.
Despite hiring private investigators, Drake's legal team has been unable to serve Asamoah with a subpoena in person for months.
