@talkSPORT@maxrushden and anyone @talkSPORT it'd be great if you would come on our pod where we talk all things refereeing!
As two young referees we welcome guests who can give us their views about the biggest decisions of the week and how refereeing can be improved! DM me if interested
@swearimnotpaul Ahahaha I know! But regardless he's technically still 'in control' as the ball is still in play and he was the last one to touch it. It might seem stupid, and trust me as someone who runs a weekly refereeing podcast, it is! But when they are the rules, they're the rules!
@JamesPowley1@henrywinter@premierleague No I agree that it shouldn't have been a pen. My explanation is in regards to the fact that the ball was still in Jota's control
The only reasonable argument for why it is not a pen here is Jota instigating contact, not that he doesn't have control
@spurscc@henrywinter@premierleague Oh I don't think it was a pen. The contact was instigated by Jota and thus it shouldn't be
I'm saying the argument that he's lost control isn't right as ultimately he still is in control in regards to the rules
@swearimnotpaul I'm arguing that from the refs view, I completely agree that Jota has moved into the keeper and so it shouldn't be a pen
But by the rules he's still in control of the ball as he's knocked it round the keeper, regardless of if it's gone out
I'm not saying I agree with it ahaha!
@spurscc@henrywinter@premierleague Was definitely a penalty on the Newcastle game. Keeper takes out the player while the ball was in play. I'm saying that both could be given as penalties here
