Every scene is first person and live, written from inside the moment by a character who doesn't know how it ends. Then the other characters arrive — other books, other centuries — and each of them tells him something different.

The scripture is exact. The voices are imagined. A new scene every day, in the order it happened.

S7:E10 · Isaac · The Digging

@ ISAAC — gentle, passive, a peacemaker who re-digs wells rather than fight (S): A hundred for one. I had them say the number back to me twice because I was certain somebody had mis-counted, and then I walked out onto that floor with the dust still hanging and got down and put my hands in the heap. In a famine year. I put seed in ground that wasn't mine — four generations of us have gone after grass and not one of us has ever done that. And then you can hear a camp stop talking when you walk into the edge of it. I'd never had that before. What do you do with the first evening you notice it?

A man who won’t contend has to do something with what happened to him. He names it. I’d not call that small.
