@UnderTheLight73 Had a go, got Gloag in three, but... Tried Logan and it said not a recognisable player. Two Logans, Jimmy and Henry played 2 games each (same as Bob Gloag). So maybe your database hasn't got all the players who played a first class game for SAFC in it?

@DiscopantsSoL I heard 47,197 and that's what BBC, Sky and ESPN are reporting now... Ridiculously https://t.co/C2WZba7yv9 doesn't state attendences. Maybe the Brighton web reporter misheard.
@RokerReport The thing is, that kit from the 80s was a lift from the Southampton kit of the 80s because we got McMenemy as boss. We adopted it during his tenure, even down to the white socks
@PeterBeuster@SunderlandAFC Probably because that's not today. Must be pre- Watford, overcast and drizzle since Friday, no way sun been out casting those shadows
@MichaelMcA91@WVintageColours@SunderlandAFC Definitely something in what you say. Stoke are another club that are reluctant to bow to evidence iirc. They were actually formed in 1868, but cling to 1863 (as it makes them one of the oldest clubs) on the basis that some sort of footy match occurred in Stoke in 1863!
@SunderlandAFC Finally, for any who think we are just spoilsports or awkward or whatever, most of us believed 1879 as well and dug and dug for years to find the evidence... And never found any. But we started to find plenty for 1880 and reluctantly concluded 1879 was a mistake.
@SunderlandAFC I find the mental gymnastics and semantics with the words formed and founded pretty embarrassing. History has to be based on evidence and there is none for 1879. The club itself said it was founded in 1880 in its season ticket for 1884/5 (when Allan was club treasurer).
@SunderlandAFC They also told Northern Athlete newspaper the same, also 1884, when all NE football and rugby clubs were asked for club info. And they also told Charles Alcock at the FA when he was compiling a nationwide list of association football clubs.
