It seems different movements/groups of muscles respond more or less favorably to time off. According to this work, measures of bench press performance decrease with 5 days of no training, but squat/deadlift not so much.

Skeletal muscle regulates immune system functions via myokines and immune modulatory molecules. Immune cells in turn influence muscle mass and function. Therefore, skeletal muscle may act as a central integrator between sarcopenia and immune senescence.

It’s published at last! A massive cell atlas of muscle regeneration and a super awesome resource for the muscle field. Kudos to @bdcosgrove and his team #myotwitter https://t.co/FsVuBD6c81
Nice study @thestrengthnerd et al. New evidence toward an enhanced neuromuscular profile following tapering. Equated volume-loads over 6-wks led to similar outcomes after step and exponential tapers including also specific exceptions. @JYUBiolPA#JYUnique
