@Beanie0597 The issue is if its optional the students who would need homework wont take it. But its better than forcing homework to the students who dont need it.
Yes, some teachers abuse homework to the point that it IS more of a punishment, but a good teacher will choose specific problems for homework because they employ what you need to know.
I agree with this policy 1,000%. Kids are already in school for about 7 hours a day and to send more home infringes on quality time outside of school, whatever that may be.
Homework is a menace to kids, parents, and overall schooling in general.
This isn't new to anyone here, but it is the martyr mentality. Teaching is "more than a job, it is a calling."
If you are not sacrificing as much as your time as possible then you must not be a real teacher.
The problem with this mindset is that so many people buy into it.
@sstorm01 I truly think more care for our well-being would go a long way. What do most schools do about that? Seems like little to nothing. What is actually needed: less marking, less unpaid responsibilities, less pointless planning, and more support.
@jasonfx Eliminate credit variety requirements. In order to graduate students should only need a certain number of credits, not a specific variety of English/Math/PE/etc.
Have a single required course every semester in the vein of "Personal Finance," and other areas of hard practicality.
Admin that are supportive, that speak supportively and never ever in any way use language suggestive that they're in the position to fire you.
Imagine bringing up a problem and they respond, 'ok, we'll see what the problem is.' Wow! As in, who the problem is. #twitterteacher
I believe if you, as a leader, have a good pulse on the culture and climate of your school, morale is considered in daily practices, so you won't have to "boost" anything. People are happy, help each other, work together, cooperate, collaborate, and are #KIND.

Itโs great for good, experienced teachers.
Really great. Itโs less great fo struggling or new teachers.
And itโs a mixed bag for students. Those who land in the classes of great teachers with full autonomy have the best experience possible.
Teachers at my high school have virtually full autonomy and itโs guarded pretty fiercely. Our teachers are used to so much autonomy that some departments (including mine) donโt even do common #assessmentsโ and couldnโt if we wanted to.
Itโs the wild Wild Wild West out here.
The teacher and students probably agreed to just go off the work that they were able to turn in. Just because you completed everything doesnt mean you deserve a 100.
A lot of teachers are being kind and flexible with students who are having problems. If you reach out to them and and explain what's going on, there's a very high chance theyll give you some accommodations. #twitterteacher#eduteacher
One student followed the rubric and got a perfect score.
Other students: how tho??
Me: the rubric. I donโt teach you about it for no reason ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
