The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo last week and a man in Maine today come at a time when the administration is deeply committed to their central project of drastically expanding their all-of-government approach to immigration enforcement...
Trump's approval rating among Hispanics had dropped early in the YouGov weekly tracker (spring/summer 2025; we saw the same at Equis). But until recently he'd managed to trend above his 1st-term numbers. In the last month, the streams have crossed.
@Jason@JDVance@VP WADR, lots of evidence on what the fee is doing now; its bad, its costing US in many ways including tax revenues.
happy to chat about some ways that immigration policy can be improved and raise more revenue, but this would not do that. you all should use your platform for this!
@stanveuger if only there was some evidence on what, say, a $100k fee on H1-Bs would do...
sorry i got distracted but lets just assume it would raise $39.5 trillion.
Will be curious if Rogan (who matters to the VP) will actually press the VP on core parts of admin’s immigration cruelty Rogan says he opposes.
What he actually demand answers to on ICE killings?
What about revoking TPS for hundreds of thousands?
Or sending people to CECOT?
Not to play media critic but…
Will the President saying ICE is doing a “GREAT” job and that “we CANNOT” make adjustments even temporarily after two more people killed on the street get the push alerts yesterday’s story did?
There is a reason people focus on the $270 billion.
@JonforFairfax@Varneyco What a gross comment.
ICE killed two people and you are attacking Democrats? Yes, Democrats generally support a process for people building their lives here to earn permenant legal status.
You can't even say its bad to for the state to kill shoot people in the head.
The bump in the road comment is really horrible. People who you oversee killed two people and you can't keep a straight face to pretend you're remotely interested change. At all. These people got over a quarter trillion dollars & that means they don't feel they have to pretend.
“I wouldn’t even call this a bump in the road.”
Enraging. And the guy saying they’re just head faking hoping people out their head down.
ICE & CBP got $270 billion. Probably have $170 billion left.
Just a horrific statement following a horrible act.
Homan: The officers involved in these shootings are well trained, I wouldn’t even call this a bump in the road. This will be a short term review, so ICE feels comfortable….
Jan. 12, 2026 — AOC sums up the Republican priority: fewer resources for health care, more funding for ICE. Instead of investing in the care and security of American families, Republicans are choosing cuts, chaos, and cruelty.
The admin's math changes & doesnt make sense--they change allocated vs planned vs spent in order to act like they're running low. But...if they spent $100B (they haven't) they'd....still have $170B.
This is an astonishing infusion/explosion of funding; we are just seeing start
Quick/update math:
ICE & CBP got $270 billion from 2025 CR, 2025 & 2026 recons. Thats 300%-500% annual increase for ICE, pre-funded through 2029. They spent way below straight-line in 1st year; we're 37% through admin. Spending is ramping up.
Likely still have $150-$180B left.

Two more people killed by ICE/DHS. Just horrific, enraging tragedies. Below there's a link to how to support Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s family & other actions to take; will share similar resources when info abt the man ICE killed in Maine today becomes available. A few thoughts...
HAYES: “For the 2nd time in less than a week ICE officers have shot and killed a motorist in the middle of the street. For the 2nd time in less than a week the man they shot dead was not their intended target.”

We cannot accept this as a new baseline of enforcement. We should organize against this violence and to claw back these funds, against their agenda to criminalize and propagandize, and instead build pathways to citizenship with dignity rather than chaos, more cages and cruelty.

2) The Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition is doing critical rapid response work. You can support them here. As promised, will share more once a GoFundMe is verified. https://t.co/OSfGwRCdqn
